Khawaja and Sufism: Manifestation of Sufi Islam in Distorted Times

Representative image Abstract The flamboyant spread of Islam across the Indian Subcontinent was not through military expeditions, as the mainstream historical narration goes, rather it was via the ecstatic attraction of Sufism and other non-violent processes. The Islamic fabric of Sufism, mixing with contemporary customs, has contributed to build a stronger cohesion of society. In contrast to the currently turmoil-torn atmosphere of North Indian states, this amicable tradition of syncretism has been boldly established in the historic track of Ajmer, Rajasthan, with the arrival of Khwaja Gareeb Nawaaz Moinuddin Chisti in the early 13th century. ওড়িশার প্রথম মুসলিম মহিলা বিধায়ক সোফিয়া ওড়িশায় ইতিহাস গড়লেন সোফিয়া ফেরদৌস। ওই রাজ্যে স্বাধীনতার পর থেকে এখনও পর্যন্ত কোনও মুসলিম মহিলা বিধায়ক হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হননি। এই প্রথমবার মুসলিম মহিলা বিধায়ক পেল ওড়িশা। ইতিহাস লিখলেন যিনি, সেই সোফিয়া ফেরদৌস তার বাবার দখলে থাকা সিটেই জিতেছেন। সোফিয়ার বাবা মোহাম্মদ মকিম বারাবতী, কটক বিধানসভা কেন্দ্রের বিধায়ক ছিলেন। কংগ্রেসী এই বিধায়ক এবারে নিজে না দাঁড়িয়ে কন্যা সোফিয়াকে এই আসনের জন্যে এগিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন। তার এই দাবি মেনে নিয়েছিল কংগ্রেস। তবে কংগ্রেসকে নিরাশ করেনি সোফিয়া। সেখানকার বিজেপি প্রার্থী পূর্ণচন্দ্র মহাপাত্রের সঙ্গে মুখোমুখি লড়াইয়ে ৮ হাজার ১ টি ভোটের মার্জিনে জিতেছেন সোফিয়া। এছাড়া-দেশজুড়ে লোকসভা নির্বাচনে অন্তত ১৫ জন মুসলিম প্রার্থী সফলভাবে নিম্নকক্ষে আসন দখল করেছেন। এই তালিকায় রয়েছেন তৃণমূল প্রার্থী প্রাক্তন ভারতীয় ক্রিকেটার ইউসুফ পাঠান, যিনি কংগ্রেস প্রবীণ বহরমপুর ঘাঁটিতে অধীর রঞ্জন চৌধুরীকে সহজেই পরাজিত করেছেন। সোফিয়া ফিরদৌস সম্পর্কে কিছু তথ্য ৩২ বছর বয়সী সুফিয়া ফেরদৌস রাজনৈতিক পরিবার থেকে এসেছেন। মিস ফ
